Film/Protest Adventure!

So yesterday Max, Neil, Andrew, Emily and I went to the Towson mall to film my EMAC final. The assignment was to research a theory and make a video about it. I researched Situationism and Guy Debord's book "The Society of the Spectacle". I focused on consumerism because there is so much in the theory to think about that I had to focus on one aspect to make a concise video. What I did was make signs with things that were written on the walls durring the 1968 student riots in Paris. It was scary how applicable they are today. They said "life is elsewhere" "are you a consumer or a participant" and "going through the motions kills the emotions". These were 20x30 and max, neil, andrew and emily wore them around their necks. I also made 8.5x11 flyers with more sayings on them for everyone to hand out. We went to the mall and wore the signs/handed out the flyers. People mostly looked puzzled but some took flyers and we didn't get any "fuck you's". Then we got kicked out. It was kinda nutty though because I was behind the guard taping and someone came on her walkie-talkie and sid "you got a videotaper behind you, make him stop" meaning that someone else was watching either from afar or on a camera and could see everything we were doing. Fuckin' crazy... Then we went to barnes and noble and didnt get kicked out at all. we put tons of flyers in books and displays which was great. Then we all stood in the median in a roundabout and got honked at lots. Then we stood in front of a giant christmas tree with our signs on and sung christmas carols. then we wlaked down the street singing christmas carrols. It was a really fun time and a great experience to fuck with people. The video has to be edited by friday and so I'll post it once its all edited down.
